Avifil32.dll is missing - Please help!

Recommended Posts

For the last few months I have been having great trouble any time I try to install software on my PC (Vista).

The software installs with success, then when i try to run the program, I get the message:

C:\Windows\system32\avifil32.dll is not designed to run on windows or contains an error

And the program is automatically shut down.

I'm in real trouble now, because I uninstalled Flash CS4 from my PC with the intention of re-installing Flash 8, which also uninstalled my Flash player, which now does not work on any website I visit - no fun for me!!

So far I have downloaded a fresh copy of avifill32.dll and attempted to remove the old copy, but my PC won't let me do anything to the original file. I keep getting the message that I need administrator permission to make changes to the file. Have checked and I clearly do have administrator permission.

I am at a total loss, is there anything I have overlooked or need to do to fix this, before I give up and call the PC repair man (who will probably have as much fun as me trying to fix it!)

Would REALLY appreciate some help!

Thanks x

Welcome to WF.

The first thing I would do is make a backup of your system, or at least a System Restore Point.

Next, see if you can rename or delete that avifil32.dll file.

Then run the System File Checker; open a Command Prompt, then type

sfc /scannow

P.S. I do not think it a good idea to download system files from 3rd-party websites; these files should match your other system files, i.e. should be part of your service level of Vista.
