yorkiemom4 Posted July 17, 2010 Report Share Posted July 17, 2010 I am having a problem that is driving me crazy. I'll try my best to describe. I attached a word document file with screen shots. One directory Cathey has the same files as Staples under the c:. I bought my computer at Staples and it was a display which is why it has a Staples directory under c:. I don't want this directory, but when I try to move Cathey, I get an error message. I don't really want Cathey with all of these files either, but when I delete them they are deleted also under Staples. I think this is probably a simple fix, but I can't figure it out. Plus there are some files in Staples that is not in Cathey that I want to keep. This also appears to take up alot of disk space. Anyone please help. I don't like the arrangement and want to change so I can place items where I know they are located. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted July 17, 2010 Report Share Posted July 17, 2010 The attached Word document contains only one screenshot, and it shows a user profile named 'Staples'.So that other folder 'Cathey' yuou mention, is it also a user profile?I don't think you should mess with user profile data; if you don't need a certain user, delete the user, not the data files. Then under desktop is libraries and homegroup. These are at the top - Staples is on below under C:/Users/Staples - I don't want the staples. I don't have a staples user. cnrimgr1 Posted August 31, 2010 Report Share Posted August 31, 2010 restart your computer go into safe mode with command prompts by pressing f8 repeatedly .once there you should see Administrator and also any other person that is listed as a administrator on the computer .once logging on as the administrator go to the control panel and select the (users) icon ( the one with the 2-3 little people )delete staples and then make an admin account (if there isn't one) and a user account which in this case would be cathy. I believe you said . make sure that you ARE NOT using the admin account for everyday surfing , tasks ect, only us this account to install and remove programs , Do updates ect .If you are surfing the web on the admin account and you catch a virus it has unrestricted access to your computer . if you are surfing on a USER account (with no privileges ) you will not have too much of a mess if a virus hits because the restricted user needs "permission " to go anywhere or do anything Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
