Windows 7 Upgrade Edition Questions

I am currently planning to buy Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade, however I have a few questions about it.

I am planning to build my own custom PC with completely new hardware, except I'm going to use my old hard drive containing Windows XP in addition to my new 1TB hard drive. Would it be possible to install the upgrade version of Windows 7 even though Windows XP will possibly detect the fact that it's a "different" PC and invalidate the copy? Further more, would I be able to install Windows 7 on the clean I TB drive instead of doing a clean install on my old hard drive? Also, will I be able to reinstall Windows 7 similar to the "full" Windows 7 if my copy of Windows 7 invalidates itself because of upgrades on my PC, or other issues?

As you can probably see any advice that we could give would only start to run into plagiarism, given the amount of information for install and upgrade that is already out there, and readily available.
