Unable to set screen resolution

Hi

I own a Compaq FP5315 15 inch Flat Panel Monitor which has always worked fine under Windows XP. However, I recently built myself a new PC (big first - quite proud of myself!) and installed Win 7 x64 Professional on it.

All works fine except that I cannot increase the screen resolution beyond 1024x678.

I am running a Generic PnP Monitor driver as I cannot find a more specific driver anywhere including HP, and this is the one Windows 7 thinks is correct.

Graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 4550.

Windows 7's device manager (update driver function) tells me that both the ATI Radeon driver and the Generic PnP monitor drivers are up to date.

Anyone able to advise how I can rectify this? I emailed HP and with their usual lack of grace refused to give me any pointers as the monitor is "out of guarantee".

I appears from a Google search that this model was originally designed for Windows 95 - rather a long time ago.

The most recent information about it refers to WXP and nothing later.

I think you might be stuck.

That's a shame.

Strange though, as I said it worked fine under XP. In fact I bought it as part of a package from PC World years after '98 was already a distant memory.

Problem is that I have the tiniest of computer desks at home and suspect that a more modern 365" screen won't fit. (Could be frustratingly expensive :( )

The "deal" you had with PC World may have been a ruse to offload old and obsolete stock.

It is fairly well known in retail for deals to be put together such as computer + screen + printer + scanner + whatever at a price else that seems amazingly good value when, in fact, one of more of the parts of the deal are discontinued models which the retailer has obtained for next to nothing (or sometimes, actually nothing as part of a bigger deal with the manufacturer).
