Transfer of files from and to shares on the same computer

I would just like to say hello to everyone since this is my fist post. I recently ran in to a slight speed problem with file transfers between two shares residing on the same computer. Here follows a description of my setup and of my problem:

First off I have a computer at home acting as a server (running Windows 7) for my music/video/photos. This computer has 4 hard drives in 2 separate raid0 arrays, both of these arrays are shared to the other computers in my home. They are shared at root (D: and E:). The server is connected to the network thru wired gigabit ethernet.

Now to the problem

When I copy/move files from D: to E: (or the other way around) localy on the server (no networking involved) I get a good speed of about 150-200MB/s from one raid array to the other.

When I do the same transfer (same files) remotely (by acccesing my servers shares via the windows network with my gigabit connected desktop) by copying from one share to the other share I get a speed of about 75-100MB/s. The problem seems to be that even thou the files ar being transfered from and to a location on the server (D: to E:) the actual transfer is being routed thru the network and thus limited by the gigabit ethernet speed.

My question is if its any solution to this problem? Possibly a way to make one "master-share" in which both of my current shares could reside, since moving files inside one share does not route the transfer thru the network.

You say that you recently ran into a slight speed problem.What was it that caused it?Was there an addition of hardware?Software?Driver updates?Cleaning up of any extra reg files/entries with an optimizer?Any misc. fiddlin' that may correspond with the onstart of this issue?

Have you tried system restore?Recovery from any backups?

The rest of your post I can't seem to grasp.I do not know the first thing about sharing. I think I can upload a file to a place and someone can retrieve the file,but that's about it.:lol:

Let me know if you figure it out.I'm still trying to decrypy most of your thread.

Unfortunately the only solution would be to remote into the "server" box and copy them as if you were sitting on the machine.

Windows will not copy it "locally" from a remote machine using shares, it will always copy it over the network when you are using network shares.

Then it is as I feared. However; while MOVING files within one share, the files are moved almost instantaneous. And by that I mean that there is no actual file transfer, the MOVE is executed as if I was using the server localy. How come Windows understands that there is no need for a network transfer for this operation?

I do on occasion use remote desktop to manage the server. It is very seldom that I find this problem to be more than annoying, but I would still like to find a soloution.

I'm terribly sorry if I overcomplicated things. English is not my first language.

The problem i "ran into" was in fact the discovery of the problem. The is not a an issue with hardware/drivers but with the mechanics of windows networking.

I've made a picure to illustrate the problem which is that instead of taking the green, fastest route, the transfer takes the red, slow route.
