Hi All,

I have just moved up from Vista to Windows 7. I am being plagued by advertising pop ups. Norton Antivirus doesn't appear to stop them (there goes another one whilst I am typing this post).

Am I alone with the problem? any suggestions on how to be rid of these nuisance pop ups

Are pop-up blocker settings under IE tools enabled?

You could also clear out browser history or run a program like CCleaner. And Malwarebytes free edition to manually scan for nasties possibly missed by Norton.

Please, before you run CCleaner, back up any/all data you wish to remain secure. It is a mighty powerful tool and should be used with some knowledge of what is being cleaned from your C drive. If the registry cleaner is used, there is a prompt to back-up the registry before "fixing" the registry.I would back-up to default location-making a quick note of this default location>it's usually in documents and dated.

Hope this helps.

Also, if you choose to use CCleaner (one of my favorite utilities), during the install, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo Toolbar and before cleaning, uncheck the Advanced option to "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 24 hours".

For the record, I have received no popups while writing this reply. I'm using IE9Beta (though I had no problems with popups with IE8) with the popup blocker enabled.
