CPU load is continuously in 100% but if I look at resource manager, it informs that CPU frequency is only 34% from max. Adjusting power control does not help, it is max 100% for CPU speed. bludgard Posted October 7, 2010 Report Share Posted October 7, 2010 As Digerati has suggested,invoke Task Manager in your "sick" PC to find out what is causing the high CPU usage.Resource Monitor will tell the same tale but it's a little less involved with Task Manager.Enable "Show processes from all users" and click on the CPU tab to nail down the culprit. Highest recource eating processes are alternating from scvhost to Windows sidebar. So to me it seems that the problem is just my PC is running actually @~500MHz clock speed instead of 1.6Gig. bludgard Posted October 10, 2010 Report Share Posted October 10, 2010 You could check the services and programs that start with Windows boot.Start>type System Configuration>under Startup tab disable any programs that you do not need to start with Windows.These programs will start on demand when needed.I personally only let MSE and sidebar in this area.Under Services tab>tick Hide all Microsoft services and check what services are booting with Windows.Disable any that you do not need.You do have backups in case you forget how to get back to where you are now? Thanks for your time.I would think that your CPU being stuck at around half of maximum stock frequency would indicate a power management program running in the background or as you say a hardware fault.Possibly a chip set driver.Or a multitude of other gremlins wreaking havoc upon your possessor.Be interested to know how this works out for you if you get it sorted.Cheers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
