Graphics card problems!

Hello, I am in need of some serious help here. I have a MAC OS X desktop that I run Windows XP Professional on and recently I tried to download some drivers to update my graphics card in order to play a computer game. The gaming forum gave me a link to some supposed drivers called ATI Radeon. My graphics card was something like ATI Mobility Radeon 2600, but now just looking in my device manager I can't even find the graphics card now! I think I seriously screwed something up here.

Anyway, I downloaded said drivers and installed them, not really knowing what to expect. I eventually thought it was just some driver-search program that I wouldn't need, so I uninstalled it and rebooted. . and that's where everything went wrong. When the computer rebooted the graphics looked distorted--all sort of stretched out a bit, and the computer was lagging quite a bit, especially during functions such as internet surfing and scrolling up and down pages. I tried to reinstall the ATI program, but nothing's changed. Is there some way to fix this or have I ruined everything for good?

Can you restore your machine using Sytem Restore?

Or perhaps you may image your C: drive with a previously created backup through Recovery.

Sytem restore worked! I keep forgetting about that tool and how handy it can be. . .anyway, graphics card drivers are one thing I definitely won't be screwing around with again. Thanks!

It is actually quite easy to roll back drivers from the Device Manager if you accidentally installed a bad driver.

Sometimes it is necessary to update your drivers, e.g. to make software (Flash Player!) to work better. But then do not let just anybody tell you what to install, but get it directly from the manfacturer's website http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Glad you have it sorted out.

If you do not already,I would suggest creating a more comprehensive back-up of your Windows C: drive to recover folders,files,system settings etc. in anticipation of future issues.

Also as noted in previous post by pat,rolling back individual drivers within Device Manager is quite simple.Of coarse this option relies on System Restore points.If System Protection is disabled then the option of rolling back device drivers is a moot point.

After some research on the matter,I am under the impression that System Restore in fact has nothing to do with rolling back device drivers.

From what I can gather-please feel free to correct me-If you update a driver without uninstalling the the current driver first,the option to roll back the driver should be there.
