lcd pc monitor broke what to buy vga dvi hdmi

Recommended Posts

disaster has hit the nufclad household my computer 19inch 4:3 lcd moniter power supply has blown and i have for the past hour managed to rigg my old toshiba tv to me pc using s video lead its very hard to read pages but i got here at least. I have been thinking its time to upgrade to widescreen for a while so this disaster isnt as bad as seems. The thing is im totally baffled to which monitor is right for me in terms of do i go for one with hdmi sockets or dvi.

I have a Nvidia geforce 6200 le 250mb grahpics card and it has a vga output an dvi and I really dont want to go upgrading graphics card to insure the monitor i buy is next 2-3 yr fusture proof.

what i mean is i notice Lcd monitors come with vga only some vga and dvi and some hdmi sockets and my thinking is im best off buying a lcd with vga + dvi connectors but i dont want to pay £140 which is my budget on a monitor that will be outdated if i upgrade a graphics card or buy a new pc in a years time....its all abit of a maze I use a seperate amlifiying sytem for my audio so not interested or botherd about audio side of this porblem

Can a grahpics card with a dvi socket be plugged into a to monitor with hdmi sockets using a dvi to hdmi cable ?

Vice verser would a graphics card with hdmi output be able to plug in a lcd with dvi using a hdmi to dvi cable ?

What would be the best advice in buyin terms lcd monitor for desktop pc use ?

I hope to go tomorrow to buy as this s video on toshiba tv is killing my eyes..
