cannot connect to network

Hi there. I have a windows vista and I bought a linksys router. I set up my wifi with a WPA type of security. Once I'm done setting up the network i cannot connect to the internet. When I check my connection it is saying limited access. I then disable the security of my wifi and I was connected. I enable the security again using WEP but I get the same problem again. I restarted my computer, reset the router again but i'm still having the same problem. I cannot surf when my network is secured but I can when its not. I have other mobile devices that can connect without any problem. Is this windows profiling? Any help will be appreciated.

Not sure what you have actually checked but have you tried disbaling and then enabling the wireless adapter in Control panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings.

and you could also try;

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

I had this issue not too long ago,

should also check encryption type is correct as firmware updates can throw settings sometimes.

also make sure your firewall is not blocking the connection "ip"

check your network drivers are upto date too

or

Reset your router to default settings to start over, your wireless computer should be able to detect the router then input your user ID and WPA ID channel should be auto i think with linksys

Hi Bugsy. Thanks for the reply. I have already reset the router to default setting and its working whenever the network is unsecured. So technically I'm getting a good IP address even if the firewall is turned on. The problem occurs just when I secure the network to WPA or WEP. I tried turning off my wireless card and turning it back on but it did not work as well. I thought its the router but I have some of my buddies connect to the network with security and they can connect. Computers are windows vista, 7 and a Mac and they have no problem. I tried my old router and sure enough it connected without any problem, secure or unsecure but when I change it to my new one I get the problem with only my computer. So the router problem is out of the question.

Anymore suggestion? I appreciate this.

ok, just bare with me i am pretty sure i have seen this issue before and has been solved.

just take a look at this i know it's not identical to your issue but i am still trying to find the relavant issue i have seen similar to yours.

I have seen your issue before but just cant think where i came accross it :(
