Disk partition is filling with no reason

I have got a problem with my partition.Partition E which is 30gb and contains windows files and microsoft office suddenly filled up with no reason and from 8gb of free sapce it now has only 1.5 and I dont know why.I havent added anything to that partition.Any help will be appreciated.

There is a little program called Treesize, from that you can view what is actually filing your drive up.

if you have peformed system restore's this can create large files too.

also Virus's can cause this problem too so you may want to run your AV and or MalwareBytes.

Ccleaner is also a good program to cleaning your computer.

I have tried ccleaner.Nothing.I scanned with ESET smart security 4.Nothing.No virus.I will try the program you mentioned.

I tried treesize.Iti is just like tune up disk space explorer.It shows that the disk is really filling.I dont know what to do

Do you know what the files are that are filling your drive up?

Go here download and run this and post the logs so i can see whats happening, i think it is malware possibly.

best put the logs in a zipfolder too ;)

it is possible this extra space is system restore points building up.

you should check the amount of GB's your restore points are taking up and maybe adjust the settings as this can take upto 30 or 40% of the space.

Im not telling you delete your restore points but take a look at this

you really need to try identify what files are filling your drive up.

and treesize tells you where all the space has gone to you need to look at this to know what files are what go to your drive in treesize and expand it so you can see exactly where all this space is.

There are no restore points saved in my system.Also I have deactivated the System Restore so it is not something like this.Before all of this happened I had deleted a large file.Is there a possibility this file hasnot been deleted and has been stored somewhere at E and I am not able to see it?I have enabled the hidden files and folders.Also before the incident I tried to extract some rars but they were damaged so the extracted file was automatically deleted.The file was 3gb.I tried extracting 3 times so the size matches the size that was suddenly filled in the drive.But it can be a coincidence.

I dont advise you turning your system restore off as one day you will need it.

turn hibernation off that will gain you some space.

i noticed you have utorrent installed on your system.... are you downloading stuff? this will be taking up space.

this is boggling my brains here :D here is another program here which is meant to be good at finding lost space telling exactly what and where it is.

if this is failing too then i suggest you open command prompt as admin and type CHKDSK : /F /R hit enter then Y enter then restart pc

I am not downloading anything with utorrent.Thanks for the program.I am trying it.I will turn on system restore.I have now turned it off and deleted the back-up to gain disk space.I want also to metion that I cannot add a certain gadget on windows 7 sidebar.Does this has something to do with it?

/F Fixes errors on the disk.

/V On FAT/FAT32: Displays the full path and name of every file on the disk. On NTFS: Displays cleanup messages if any.

/R Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information (implies /F).

/L:size NTFS only: Changes the log file size to the specified number of kilobytes. If size is not specified, displays current size.

/X Forces the volume to dismount first if necessary. All opened handles to the volume would then be invalid (implies /F).

/I NTFS only: Performs a less vigorous check of index entries.

/C NTFS only: Skips checking of cycles within the folder structure.

/B NTFS only: Re-evaluates bad clusters on the volume (implies /R)

CHKDSK : /F /R would perform a full scan including bad sectors and attempt to fix them.

also Run SFC /SCANNOW from elevated command prompt hit enter and let it scan then restart

Hey take a look at this.

The "files" folder and the MSOCache are something unknown to me.Especially "files" are not shown on windows explorer and the file size is big.Forget to mention that the partition free space not 1.5Gb anymore.It is 4.6 now but I think the problem remains.

Turn hibernation off as that is 1.5GB;

Pagefile.sys is a virtual memory file in windows

If you want to use the space used by windows paging file and have enough physical RAM on your PC, you can .

Turn off windows virtual memory

Restart the PC and

Delete the pagefile.sys

Note that the physical RAM size needed to turn off virtual memory depends upon the number of applications you use and their memory requirements.

However turning off virtual memory is never advisable and you can instead consider moving pagefile.sys to another drive with enough disk space.

Best read this first before deciding anything.

Ok I moved the pagefil.sys to a larger partition.I disabled Hidernation.I deleted some save games with a lot of spae and now I got 8GB of free space.I am also thinking of buying another disk so when I buy it I will resize E to 60-80 gb and I will have no problem.Thank you for all your help.You really helped a lot!
