maverick6664
Hi,I'm a novice about windows (usually use Linux). My vista notebook is connected to the Internet via LAN and should have ipv4 address 192.168.0.4 and default gateway 192.168.0.66. However many times I set default gateway address, any application cannot connect to the internet and at the same time vista forgets the default gateway(the field goes blank). What's going on?And another problem is even I'm log in as an administrator, I cannot run sfc.exe. Every time I run "sfc /scannow" in the command prompt, it says "You need to be an administrator". What shall I do?TIA!
maverick6664
addition:I tried "sfc /scannnow" in safemode with command prompt and it ran. However, it said "By Windows resource protection, damaged filed were found, but some of them couldn't be repaired. For details, see cbs.log (and its detailed path)". andsome
Perhaps it's time for a reinstall unless you have a mirror image to install.

maverick6664
Perhaps it's time for a reinstall unless you have a mirror image to install. It looks like so....... :(But somehow, when sfc /scannow runs, it doesn't require cdrom/dvd. Unfortunately I lost its recovery disk, so if I had the recovery disk, could I do anything?
Makcalable
First off when running sfc /scannow you need to run command prompt as Administrator by Right Click, also you do not need the Install DVD for win7/Vista to perform this task. How often is this happening after setting it up, after it goes to sleep mode or just random? You should check your Device manager for any issues there... "Yellow Exclamation Marks"Also check these setting and Ipv6 if they are enabled then disable them and vice versa, some times it works.Check the these settings > device manager > right click on Network Adaptor > Properties > power management tab > are any of the things checkmarked?Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power. Allow this device to wake the computer. You should check all your drivers are upto date especially your network adaptor by going to manufacturer website. You may need to perform a Repair Install.See Here it may helpAnd herealso try below from the command window;ipconfig /releasethen;ipconfig /renewLet us know how you get on.
