Strange issue with Explorer file handling

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

My Windows 7 installation has just developed a strange issue with file handling.

When I attempt to change a file name, e.g.: document.txt, Explorer doesn't reflect the change on screen.

So if I open Explorer navigate to a file and then rename, for example:

document.txt is renamed to a.txt, then Explorer still shows "document.txt".

If I then attempt to rename documnet.txt I get a message along the lines of "this file is no longer available".

Clicking on the back / forward arrows (to move between directories) allows the file name to refresh!

This problem first presented itself when my Windows 7 installation crashed.

The crash occurred whilst I was running VMware Workstation (XP - SP3 client), and XP mode both at the same time, so essentially I had two guest operating systems and the host all running at once.

I believe that the issue may be related to the fact that 3 operating systems (1 - host, & 2 guests) had access to the file system at the same time.

If anybody knows a fix for this issue or has any ideas regarding how this issue might be fixed they will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Davo
