Home directory permissions in Server 2008/AD

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

I'm looking to create a new file server that will host network users home directories (a directory that can be mapped automatically when a user logs on). I understand how to set this up, however I'm having issues with the permissions. Under AD I create a new user and then go to Profile > Home folder > Connect: \\servername\%username%. This creates a directory automatically. However, this directory is not secure. What I want is for each users home directory only be accessible by that particular user or domain admins. At the moment the directories are accessible to everybody on the domain. Is it possible to lock them down in this way? How would I go about making the permissions work this way and so that they automatically set up this way and not have to do them all manually?

Many thanks

Paul.
