ndh777
I had two identical computers a few years ago (Acer Aspire laptops if that matters) and both of them are completely destroyed as of now. I took parts out of them including their hard drive.I had taken apart an external hard drive and took its parts out to create a USB hard drive connector to my computer that reads SATA drives. Both of the drives from the laptops are SATA drives.I have about 4 different SATA drives that I connect to the drive. Only two of the four connect and show up on the computer and other USB reading devices such as my Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The two that came from the computers do not show up at all anywhere on the computer except in Device Manager and even then, I may be imagining things when I see an "unknown device: pfcouffon" or something that shows up and may not be the drives but something else.My question is, is there any way that I can format these drives so that they can be read on my computers, etc.? bludgard
It may be worth trying to boot from live media to recognize/partition/format the drives. Something like GParted Live may help with the process.

Is there a tutorial somewhere that I can learn how to do that?I went to the website to see about downloading the software and they too told me about "booting in live media" because apparently it only works in Linux. bludgard
GParted live works with a machines hardware; not the operating system(s) thereon.First I would strongly encourage you to back up your machine in the form of a System Image! This image will give you an easy, safe way back to the current state of your machine in case something should run amok.Download the .ISO file > burn the image file to CD/DVD. Boot from the live CD/DVD.
