[Vista] Read Sector Failure

Hi guys,

Hopefully you can help me, as this is a pain in my rear end.

I am formatting an Asus P20 running windows vista.

I successfully did a recovery and loaded windows. Once it had started up I deleted anit-virus, and was going to install another. I think I gave the poor thing to many jobs, as it froze up and got nowhere (used to my new toy).

I pulled the power, as trying to hold the power button did nothing.

Restarting the computer it got to the windows loading bar (the one that scrolls under the windows logo) but the logo did not appear. After leaving it there for a while it would just restart. I have tried all the safe-mode menu options (with network, bios, reverting to last good save etc) to no luck, so decided to try another recovery.

All i get while in the ghost program on the recovery CD is; "Read Sector Failure Result =1, Drive = 0, Sectors 134431 to 134495"

Have looked online, trying to find answers, but all i could find were things like "type 'x' into command prompt". But I cant even get into command prompt...

Thanks for any help!

Zac

Page 37 of the Asus P20 manual gives instruction for recovery using the disk provided.

Try this but follow the instructions carefully - do not let the computer boot up but press "Del" before that happens. This should take you into the BIOS.

All PCs I've ever used would power down if you hold the Power button for 30 seconds or longer. Maybe it's now time for a new HD.

Yes, as with any I have owned.

These P20's are like a touch button, never liked them. Oh well was only going to use as a basic little server.

Thanks!
