When connect IDE cdrom to motherborad my pc hang..?

Recommended Posts

A few things to check first:

1. Is the CDROM on the same IDE cable as the hard drive. If it is, it must be connected as a "slave" or "cable select" (80 wire cable) to the grey connector.

2. !s the cable the correct orientation? On a three connector IDE cable, the motherboard connector is the one furthest away from the middle one and is normally blue in colour. The black connector is for the "master" device - or if there is only one device connected, use this.

3. Check that the connection is not displaced to one side. Some socket designs allow some movement such that the connection can made incorrectly. This could apply at the device or the motherboard.

4. Are the jumpers on the device set correctly?

5. Is the cable 40 or 80 conductor? This can make a difference even though there are only 40 pins on the connectors in both types of cable.
