System Freezing, Vista

Ok, so just lately I've been having an issue where the computer will lock up entirely, I won't be able to move the mouse or open the task manager so the only way around it is to restart. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, I could be watching videos, playing a game or not doing anything and it'll still freeze.

At first I thought it could be the CPU overheating but I've managed to drop the temperatures by about 8-10 degrees and it's still happening. Other popular theories (I've been Googling it for a while) are any one of various RAM related issues and hard drive malfunction. The interesting thing is that I only noticed it after updating the BIOS, so that could be part of the issue.

After rebooting I find no error reports and no trace that it even happened, which is quite frustrating.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
