Slow Copying Speed on Windows 7 64-bit

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm facing a performance issue with windows 7, when copying through network a big number of small files, the copying speed keeps decreassing till it reachs 100KB/s and sometimes less, Although when I copy large files the speed can reach and stabilize on 80MB/s .

I'm copying from Windows 7 64-bit installed on Falcon PC i7-32G RAM, through cat5e cables the switch supports 1G, the files is being copied to HP EVA P6500 SAN storage attached to Windows 2008-R2 file server.

Looking forward for your answers.

Hi,

I'm sorry to say this to you, but this is not a performance issue, this is just normal. :) Every time you want to copy big number of small files, you will experience decrease in copy speed. If you have 2 hard drives in your computer, you can try this. Try to copy big number of small files(pictures, music etc.) from one hard drive to another. It will take much longer than when you copy big files(iso files etc.). I know it's pretty annoying but there is nothing you can do about this. Only option is to archive those files into rar file. Computer will see it just as a single big file and copy it much quicker. But the archiving and extracting will take a lot of time as well.

Hope I helped a little, bye.
