MartinYonko
Hello guys.As you can see I'm new here and it's nice to meet you all.Let me start with the beginning.:D I have a laptop running windows 7 and I'm playing an online game in which you can stay online afk and earn money and stupid things like this.I want to leave my laptop on overnight but I'm afraid of overheating and shorthening the its life .I have read a few things about sleep mode and hibernation mode but I didn't understand too much(I'm kinda noob when talking about computers so I came here to ask some experienced and cool guys like u ^_^).So the main things I would like my laptop to do:*reduce the heat*keep the internet connection(which is needed since I am playing an online game*keep the game running*reduce the ventilation(*eventually work with the LCD screen down)I'm waiting for answers.Have a nice day!:)
-pops-
Sleep or hibernation modes will not achieve what you want to do. Regarding overheating, why do you think it will overheat? Computers are equipped with fans to keep them cool and in the event of fan failure, the machine is designed to shut itself down to avoid self-destruction. You will need to alter the power-saving settings of the machine to override its "green" modes but this can usually be done without problems. Ideally a desktop computer would be used for 24/7 operation but it can be done with a laptop.
MartinYonko
Thanks for answering. So is there something else I can do at least to use its lowest performance?(I'd eventually like to know if there is any way to keep it on while the LCD display is down). -pops-
You should be able to control the "on" times of your screen via Power Options in Control Panel.
Settoz
I have done this allot of times when I am downloading large files. Just put it in powersave so it wont be heated up. =)
OneBlueSky
As long as it's on a smooth, solid surface like a desk, and the vents are clear of anything blocking them (like books, cups, etc.) It's not going to overheat.Computers are designed to be run all the time. If you want the screen to shut off but the computer to stay on and working, like pops said, just go into the power options menu, select "change plan settings" and set the screen to shut off in whatever time you want, and make it so "put the computer to sleep" is set to never. :)
