Can't see my second hard drive on Win8

I installed Windows 8 Pro on my computer. I have a second hard drive that I keep all my files.

When I was using Win7 and Win Xp, I had no issues but now the hard drive does not show up on my computer.

Is there any reason why this is happening?

Your second hard drive ( D ) basically has no file system anymore if we are to believe what we see in the first screenshot.

Where it says 931,51GB RAW, it should actually state - 931,51GB NTFS.

There can be a couple of reasons for this. Either the drive is faulty (Doubtful), or that the file system on that disk has somehow become corrupted. If you have a lot of important files on the disk, now is the time to tread very carefully and not panic. Do check the plugs to the drive and make sure that they are seated properly. Do not write to or format the drive before trying the following.

I would suggest firstly that you use a Linux live CD and find out if you can still see all of your files. Even if you cannot, it is not the end of the world for there is other software available to enable you to retrieve them.

Amongst the best is the "Easeus Data Recovery Professional", unfortunately this comes in with a heavy price label of $89.95 !!! It does however recover the files within their folders and in more or less the same structure as you first had them. The cheaper options and the freeware options very often recover files well, but in a very random order.

I have had drives do this to me before for no apparent reason. It's Sods Law, and very annoying. That's computers for ya. Sometimes you only have to look at them the wrong way and they pack up !
