Jacobs13
Hi there,I struggle with a bit of a problem that I hope someone can help me solve. My challenge is that I am from a Windows machine must have a permanent routing to one particular IP address, but via a gateway which is only available when a particular VPN connection is active.I start first VPN connection and then make routing, and it works. Lost connection to the VPN and then comes up again, so does routing no longer.I make routing first and then the VPN connection, then it does not. Not even the gateway can easily be caught.Application to be caught via "VPN gateway" to start up a website in a browser. Is it something I'm doing wrong, or is it just business as usual? MANEMAN
What is it that you are actually trying to do ? Could you perhaps draw a diagram for us ?
Jacobs13
Unfortunately, I have no diagram. I will try to describe my challenge - hopefully a little better. On the network is a PC. Let's call it "A", and say that it has the IP address 165.165.165.23.On the Internet (WAN) is a website. Let us think that it has the IP address 166.166.166.47Elsewhere on the Web is a server and handles VPN connections. Let us think that it has the IP address 167.167.167.18.The website can be accessed for those coming from 167.167.167.18.Scenario is that PC "A" connects to the VPN on 167.167.167.18 (without using the default gateway on the remote network). When the VPN connection is running, returned VPN connection gateway. It is 192.168.177.1Now make a route: route-p add 166.166.166.47 MASK 255.255.255.255 192.168.177.1In other words: When "A" enters 166.166.166.47 so that routes all traffic on to 192.168.177.1 which is VPN connection gateway. Here until everything works. The problem occurs when the VPN connection fails a split second. The routing is still, but when the VPN connection is reconnected as does routing anyway. And I do not understand. Is it business as usual and it's just how it works, or is it because I'm doing something wrong - or a way to circumvent it. Here I can still ping the VPN connection gateway (192.168.177.1)Say finally if I not have described the problem well enough. Then I immediately go on with paper and pencil :-)
MANEMAN
Is it business as usual and it's just how it works, or is it because I'm doing something wrong ?Apologies for the delay.I have got to say that I do not know. :(Whether that is because I cant get into a "Lateral Thinking" mode, or it is just one of those questions that doesn't run smoothly and easily in a forum environment I'm not sure. - "You had to be there" - would probably best describe how I feel about it. (And I have read it several times now.)Or perhaps it's headphone cable all tangled up and best put down for another day. I'm not even getting any feedback from my Spirit Guide with your particular question.I'll pass on this one. - Leave it up here for someone else with a kinky brain to answer.Sorry.John.
