Hi,

really hope I can get a straight and simple answer from somone on here. I really want to get the Surface as a secondary laptop for home. The main reason for getting this though will be home based work. All I want to know is, will I be able to run a Java client on Windows RT, or is it better to wait for the full Windows 8 version?

Thanks in advance,

D.

Hi there.

"WinRT software has to be signed by MS to be run. Java isn't."

There really isn't a straight and simple answer. As with any purchase most decisions made are more subjective than objective that is why it is important to do your own research, and do it well.

The word that sticks out in your post, and the one that you have given priority too is "Work." It is doubtful if Windows 8 or Windows RT will get work done any faster, cheaper, or more efficiently than any previous operating systems.

So.......... Do you need to use these latest operating systems or do you just want them ?

Possibly an older laptop with Windows 7 or Windows XP would do the same work and be a lot cheaper ?

That is the sort of objectivity you need to be applying.

Here are some links to help you do your research. There are a heck of a lot more on Google !

Straight and simple answers start to come forth when we get in touch with our own subconscious mind.

Keep the word "Work" in your mind to retain objectivity and you will probably end up with what you need.

If you don't you will probably end up with what you want........... Perhaps just another new toy that you will be waiting longingly for Microsoft to issue some sort of Service Pack 1 for in about 18 months time ?
