Problem when moving photos

Last year I bought a new Sony Vaio in the UK. I came complete with Windows 7 Home. When I move pictures to a directory on my hard disk, either from another source or simply from another directory I find a new sub directory in the target directory with the photos name xxxxxxxx.jpg.file as the sub directories name. In the new subdirectory there are 2 new copies of the photo much smallerin size and with unusual names e.g. vcm_s_kf_m160_160x120 .jpg and vcm_s_kf_repr_832x624.jpg. these names indicating the size of the new files. These additional folders are frustrating me no end and are consuming much energy in deleting them. I do not know what program is responsible. "months ago I upgraded to windows 8 Pro but the problem still exists. Can anyone help me identify this in order to remove it or is it perhaps some worm. I use Norton 360 to guard against viruses.

Welcome to the Windows Forum!

From where are you moving your pictures, and how do you move them?

I usually move pictures from my camera to the target folder using Windows Explorer; simply drag-and-drop - this way the photos end up where I want them, and no additional images are generated.
