VT-x and Virtualbox

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I am having an issue with Virtualbox at the moment.

Basically I get this error when I try to start one of my virtual machines.

"VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration has been enabled, but is not operational.

Your 64-bit guest will fail to detect a 64-bit CPU and will not be able to boot.

Please ensure that you have enabled VT-x/AMD-V properly in the BIOS of your host computer."

I have used Virtual box before on this machine, but I was running Windows 7 at the time. I am on Windows 8 at the moment.

I know the CPU supports it. And I have looked in the BIOS and see no settings about virtualization, so I am assuming it is just on by default?

I have googled the error a few times and haven't seen any issues that seem to match up to my particular situation.

The general consesus seems to be that some other program is already using the service, but I have NO IDEA what it could be.

Is there any way to check what program could be using it? And is there a way to check if Vt-x is enabled from in Windows?

System Specs

Core i7-2600k

8GB DDR3

EVGA GTX 470

MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) mobo

Thanks in advance.
