Currently using windows vista ultimate 64 bit oem.going to upgrade motherboard and cpu to a more current amd chip, as my models are not even available anymore, although i'll likely go for a cheaper gigabyte ud3 990fx mobo instead of a crosshair. will i be able to use the same license key for vista? bludgard Posted April 26, 2013 Report Share Posted April 26, 2013 Probably be some conflict of opinion concerning the activation of OEM Windows staying valid after certain hardware is replaced.I replace motherboards in desktops and laptops daily; swap CPUs, RAM, HDD etc. Never have I had a problem with Windows validation. As for replacing a mobo with a whole different chipset: I couldn't say.BTW; what makes you think it is the CPU that is causing BSODs? shalis Posted April 26, 2013 Author Report Share Posted April 26, 2013 everything else is fairly new, basically the motherboard and the cpu are the only things left that i haven't replaced trying to fix the machine, at first it was hard crashes and freezes with continous loops, so i removed the soundcard and used the onboard sound, then its been a spiral of replacements since. this is my current system, it was custom built by me at the time, and i've upgraded everything in it throughout the years except for the motherboard/cpu: Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHzMotherboard: Asus Crosshair I (revision 1207 latest bios, flashed it last fall, had done it once before already a few years past, but was already starting to show problems and i hoped the bios update would fix it, unfortunately was unable to start the machine for a bit after that and required a cmos reset to get it going again.)Memory: 8190MB RAM Corsair XMS2 Dual Channel DDR2 (just bought recently i thought perhaps the memory was the problem)Page File: 2754MB used, 11319MB availableCard name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 (bought last fall, when my machine started to freeze up/crash and i thought replacing the video card would fix it)Sound Card: SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio250mb 7200 rpm hardrive (checked nothing seems wrong with it)Antec 1000watts powersupply (from 2008/7) Besides the issues when i flashed the bios, before i bought the 560, i had a 2xx nvidia card that required 2 power connectors, my power supply had plenty of pci-e connectors but i had lost the cables during a move earlier when i still had an earlier video card that didn't require the extra power connector. I drew power from one of the main cables that supplied power to some fans and the motherboard to fill in the second power connector on the 2xx card. I bought custom cables when i upgraded to the 560 so that the power to the card is coming directly from the psu. i was sure that that had been the problem, but unfortunately it wasn't.
