schneidz Posted July 2, 2013 Report Share Posted July 2, 2013 hi. i have this printer connected to my linksys router and i am able to print from my fedora machine after yum install hplip.i am trying to set this up on my wifes win-7 laptop. i go to start -> devices and printers -> add a device.and after a few moments it finds the printer on my network (hpf732bo-hp officejet 4500 g510g-m).i click next and i get a page saying that the device has been successfully installed but after a few minutes a pop-up comes up saying that the install failed:wsd print device (green check mark) ready to usewsd print device (red x) no driver foundwhen i try to print using notepad the new printer isnt available as an option.when i go to the hp site to manually install the driver, it installs all the hp bloatware but at the end it tells me to connect the usb cable to finish the install. what is the way to connect this as a network (wifi) printer in windows ? Connect the printer via USB to target machine as indicated. It will "sync" and one will be (hopefully) on ones way. Edit: One can also (usually) opt out of bloatware offered with driver install media if one reads carefully and unticks boxes instead of yes go next enter OK I agree please kill my machine. schneidz Posted July 2, 2013 Author Report Share Posted July 2, 2013 i'll try to find the cables and hook up to the laptop (if this was my desktop i would have to either pack up the pc closer to the printer or drag the printer and extension cord over to the pc). i originally tried the it professional drivers from hp but since that didnt work i assumed the full (200 mb) install would work but no luck. i tried installing the driver again and at no place does it ask me about ip address. it only cares to show me animations about how to set up the paper feed tray.thanks anyways, Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

schneidz Posted July 6, 2013 Author Report Share Posted July 6, 2013 thanks, it is easier for my wife to email me the documents to print out on my desktop (kind of a ghetto network printer). still not sure why the install worked on my desktop connected to lan but not the laptop connected to wifi. my opinion is that the hp software + the windows way of installing stuff (cd-rom/download ... mouse-clik ... bloatware ...) hinders more than helps and leaves you with a non-uniform procedure (other instructions/forums mention that the install requires you to type in the ip-address of the printer but it never showed me that step). #first-world-problems Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you cannot print after installing the network printer, try using the Troubleshooter to find what's going wrong. Good advice but I have always connected my wifi connected printers via USB to actually get them to work with OEM drivers (which IMO are a must). Seems that you yourself have advised to follow directions for installing printers? Windows does not supply all drivers for all hardware. True. You are right; I had to manually install the drivers for my Japanese Brother printer on my English Windows. Afterwards I had no problems connecting to the networked printer.
