Netgear Wireless Adapter Crashing Computer

I'm not certain what the appropriate forum to post this in is.

I'm visiting my father for the Fourth of July and I noticed his computer crashes when unattended for very long. Using windows debugging tools I see this error from the dump:

*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for scmndisp.sys
Probably caused by : scmndisp.sys ( scmndisp+16d1 )

It seems to be related to his usb network adapter from Netgear (model WNA3100). I've recommended to him that he purchase a network card or a different network adapter that doesn't use this file. Although other options for fixing it seem to be turning off hibernation mode on the computer.

The help I'm looking for is this:

Does anyone know how to resolve the situation without purchasing a new network adapter/card. Or, does anyone know a network adapter that is compatible with windows 7 and won't cause system instability? There's a guide out there to fix the problem of scmndisp.sys, but it requires removing the network adapter's functionality. So replacing it will definitely fix it, so long as the new adapter doesn't have similar issues. Recommendations on windows 7 compatible adapters appreciated.

The software for netgear came with an auto up-date thing for drivers and such. So I thought it was at its most up to date, but apparently not. When they moved to version 2 they stopped auto-updating from that software. So I've installed the drivers for 2.01, hopefully that will fix it, but I don't see specific info for what problems the new versions resolve so we'll just have to wait and see.
