WeldPhaser
Hello again, Ha i seem like the only noob posting recently. Well, I guess someone has to keep the mods, and wizards busy.. lol So PostgresQL,(not sure If I'm allowed to post links. So if you wanna check the program out google it, and main site should be first listing.) It's a database program I use in conjunction w other software(Holdem manager 2) to keep track of my poker playing online. The tracker program keeps track of all my hands, and all my opponents so I can study them, and fix any leaks or holes in my own game. I have been using Holdem manager 2 since it wasHoldem manager(2009). Always on win7, and have never had the slightest problem with it. Now since I have win8 , it seems as though my major error are coming from the installation process of postgresQL. After which windows fails to recognize me as an admin, and i basically have to start over. I know some are probably thinking, " So don't install the program then." Well, see I absolutely love playing poker, and I also coach. So without this software able to run I'm losing both revenue streams. Not Good.. One good thing is that the support team @Holdem manager has been awesome, and have offered to do a remote connect to help fix my problems. I'm def going to do this, but I just wanted to post what he instructed me to do in an email to try and understand for myself what/why this software is doing this. I'll insert his email below. If anyone can give any of their knowledge on this situation I would be very grateful.. Hi, my name is Chris. It sounds like you aren't installing on an admin account and/or installing as an administrator. - Please see these steps to fix postgresql installation issues: - Please update windows fully. Please keep checking until it shows twicet five minutes apart that there are no more updates. If you have Win7 or 8 (or Vista), consider the following:1) PC name must be in English and "in one word" - requires reboot after changing.2) The same for Windows user name. If not - create new Win user with EN name and reboot PC for this user when install Postgres. And he must have admin rights. After installation you can kill this new user - his mission is completed.3) Secondary logon service must be set to "Autostart".This is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services.4) UAC = OFF ( How to Disable and Turn Off UAC in Windows 7 « My Digital Life )5) Disable firewall and antivirus when installing Postgres and HM. Or uninstall them at all. 6) All installations must run "as admin" (by right-click on file). And do them as first thing after PC reboot.7) If you want to change install path for Postgres (or to set non-default folder for database cluster) - download "standalone" installation file from Download PostgreSQL | EnterpriseDB8) If your Windows is not in English - you have to install Postgres not in default folder in Program_Files. Create new (example: c:\postgresql) first and select it when install.9) Install Postgres and HM separarelly, one after one. As admin. If HM (when runs for the 1st time) says "no database" - simply create it via DBControlpanel.10) If Postgres install fails - after uninstalling don't forget to kill windows user named "postgres":Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt > Right-Click > Run As AdministratorIn the window that appears please type the following and press enter:net user postgres /delexactly as shown. You should get a confirmation if it was successful.11) Run all pokerclients "as admin" too. - Please update your network adapter. Open device manager and find the model #. Search google for the model # drivers to download. - Please run the windows repair on your winsock: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259 If you are using Mcafee, Norton, Comodo or AVG for security, they have been causing a lot of issues with postgres lately. We recommend using a different program, such as Microsoft's firewall and Microsoft Security Essential. If you do feel that you need Comodo or AVG, uninstall first, install postgres, then reinstall after it is working. See this guide for Windows Firewall: http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1052/Windows+Firewall+%7B47%7D+Defender+Problems Download from http://www.enterprisedb.com/products-services-training/pgdownload#windows - do not use 9.1 or 9.3. There is a lot of stuff to do here, and I honestly don't understand a lot of what it asks me to do. That bothers me. I don't like just blindly following very long, detailed instructions when I'm not even sure what I'm doing. So if any of you guys can help me sort out these instructions, and what I'm doing to my system by doing them i would really appreciate it.. Thank you, Weld
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
What is the Postgres version you are installing? Are you installing as an Administrator user? Did the Postgres installation succeed? How does Windows "fail to recognize me as an admin"? Have you at least tried to answer the 11 points that Chris from HM has sent to you? If not, which of these points were unclear to you? Did the Postgres installation succeed? How does Windows "fail to recognize me as an admin"? Have you at least tried to answer the 11 points that Chris from HM has sent to you? If not, which of these points were unclear to you? Q1: Postgresql v. 9.0 Q2: Yes installing as Amin Q3: Yes, finally it succeeded. ( I had to turn off UAC, and apparent;y may need to keep it off), and then I made sure secondary logon was turned to automatic. As I was biting my nails through the install process it finished and brought up the dialog box in end saying Postgres install was successful.. Yay!! Q4: IDK, but twice after postgres didn't install right. right after, windows 8 failed to recognize me as an admin, and all i could really do was reset the comp back to factory...
