Spesial Posted August 23, 2013 Report Share Posted August 23, 2013 Hi,I am a technician for a business and my boss wants to transfer the XP operating system from an old computer to a new one were going to buy.I have read online that its possible using a sysprep command that somehow makes a fresh copy of the OS ready to be installed into a new computerquestion is, can the CD key be transferred with it or must we buy a new CD key for the new computer?as far as i know Microsoft stopped producing keys for XP and we would like to avoid buying a new OSif possible. -pops- Posted August 23, 2013 Report Share Posted August 23, 2013 If the XP version is OEM (meaning it came installed with the current computer) then it is not possible to move the whole system, just files and settings) Presumably the new computer will be supplied with a more up-to-date version of Windows. This being so, you can use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in the newer Windows version to transfer the user files over. Note that XP does not have the FSTW installed itself but it depends on the new version. Note that you must install fresh copies of all programs that you want to transfer, only the program data and information is transferred.
