littlebigman
Hello I'd like to run an application to watch the hard disks on my Windows 7 workstation through SMART. I gave the Windows port of open-source Smartmontools a try last night, but even when running in a DOS box as Admin, it seems like it only supports a subset of the features in the original *nix application: c:\Program Files\smartmontools for Windows\bin>smartctl -H /dev/sda smartctl 6.2 2013-07-26 r3841 [i686-w64-mingw32-win7-sp1] (sf-6.2-1) Copyright (C) 2002-13, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org Read SMART Thresholds failed: Function not implemented === START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: PASSED c:\Program Files\smartmontools for Windows\bin>smartctl -t short /dev/sda smartctl 6.2 2013-07-26 r3841 [i686-w64-mingw32-win7-sp1] (sf-6.2-1) Copyright (C) 2002-13, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF OFFLINE IMMEDIATE AND SELF-TEST SECTION === Sending command: "Execute SMART Short self-test routine immediately in off-line mode". Command "Execute SMART Short self-test routine immediately in off-line mode" failed: Function not implemented Is there a free/affordable alternative you would recommend? Thank you. -pops-
Have you seen this full package alternative version? http://www.netpower.fr/smartmontools -
littlebigman
Yes, that's the one I used. I also tried the one on the Smartmontools site, but neither works. It seemed like the driver wouldn't work, but for some reason, SpeedFan ran the short test successfully. I'll investigate further. Thank you. -pops-
As the software is open source you would be best served by contacting the creators with your problem - to help them overcome any bugs and to help you get a program which works as you would wish. littlebigman
I did, and they said the driver could be at fault. As I need a working solution now, I moved on. Thank you.
