The new car came with a sony ( don't you just love them ) c\d player. It Will play all forms of format, except mp3.

I did write a mp3 with about 8 albums on it to keep down the amount of disks in the car. Of course it being a sony, it has to have it's own compression software.

I do have Sonic stage, which is the software for the sony clie to write there form of mp3 to smart media. I have converted several albums to this atrac3 compression. I have located the folder where the tracks are stored. Every thing there is hunky dory.

Now it does not seem to have the facility to burn to cdr or cdrw. It will transfer quite happily to the clie or a smart media card. I have tried nero and roxio to burn them as music files, but the format is not recognised in them. The only one to recognise them as any file has been roxio :o . This has been a general data file, so I burned the disk, well 30p's worth. Result is a no-go in the car. They work fine on the P.C. but also not in the household stereo.

Anyone have any thoughts of burning these atrac3 music files to disk?

I have tried the software that Morpheus directed me to. It seems that it can recognize and convert audio to atrac3. This is not a problem as I already have Sony's sonic stage.

The problem is trying to get the burning software to recognize the file type as an audio file. It seems as if the latest update from nero may have this association. I will download and try.

The stupid thing is that we converted some audio files to compact flash from the clie. This was then put on to a cdr and this works fine in the car. ;)

Trouble is we did it a while ago and I can't bleeding remember how we did it. :(

You can utilize the supplied Sonicstage Simple Burner software to burn CD-R/CD-RWs in Sony's ATRAC3plus format. ATRAC3plus gives you the added benefit of maximum storage (up to 490* songs per CD-R/CD-RW) at high sound quality.

Important note! CD-R/CD-RWs burned using Sony's ATRAC3plus audio format can only be played back on ATRAC3plus supported devices such as your ATRAC3/MP3 CD Walkman player. If you would like to utilize your CD-R/CD-RW in other CD players, it is recommended that you use a separate software program to burn your CDs in another audio format (such as MP3 or CDDA).

To create a CD-R/CD-RW utilizing Sonicstage Simple Burner:

Selecting tracks from a CD:

Insert audio CD into the CD ROM drive of your PC.

Click the CD Tab.

Click "Get CD Info" to download album title, track titles, artist name, etc. (your PC must be connected to Internet in order to get CD information).

Select the track(s) you would like to add to the ATRAC CD window.

Click the "Add" arrow button to add selected track(s).

Selecting MP3 files from your Hard Drive:

Click MP3 Tab.

Click [Open] and select the folder where your MP3 files are stored.

Select the files(s) you would like to add to the ATRAC CD window.

Click the "Add" arrow button to add selected file(s).

Select Bit Rate for Recording:

Click "Config" button in upper right corner to select recording mode*.

ATRAC3 66kbps 355 songs

Edit ATRAC CD Image:

You can change the track name, artist, or album name by clicking on the track(s).

You can change the order of the tracks or groups by dragging and dropping to a new destination.

You can create a new group by clicking on the "new group" button.

You can erase individual tracks or groups by selecting the desired track and/or group and clicking the "Delete" button.

Burn ATRAC CD Image:

Confirm the image to be burned. Once burned, content cannot be edited.

Insert CD-R/CD-RW into the CD ROM drive of your PC.

Click "Burn" button.v

Confirm Write Speed and click Start.v

When recording is complete, a message will appear on the display. Remove the CD-R/CD-RW from the CD ROM drive.

The atrac3 images are on the hard drive and I come to the next section,

This also is no problem. I can burn the image but not as audio files. They will burn as mixed data and will play well on the P.C.

I think I must have missed something important off the sony disk. I think I will re-insert the disk and go through all the modules to see if I can find anything obvious. :unsure:

It is a shame as the playback quality of the atrac3 is very good and the number of songs per disk is phenomenal.

i may be missing something, but in the instructions, it doesnt say anything about selecting the disk type (ie, audio, data etc).

are you using the sonicstage package to burn the disk?

No I am not. It will not give me that option. I cannot select either the cdrw or dvd burners.

I can burn to the clie, no problem.

the instructions relate to the sonicstage simple burner rather than sonicstage....do you have that one?

I have been scouring the disk and can't find a reference to that. Even on the link to the website you gave it referred to sony portable devices.

I wounder if it was off one of my old clie's that I upgraded?

But why oh why stick a c\d player in a car that can play atrac3 disks and not have the facility to burn.

If only I could remember how I burned the old one. :unsure:

I have completley dissembled the clie installation disk and not come up with anything.

Even a windows search has proven fruitless.

I think I may still have a disk for the old peg nr70v. I shall look there next. :rolleyes:

Anyone want a 4 week old car with a dodgy c\d player. :angry:

I have had a good look through the old clie disk and have come up with zilch.

It would appear that I can get the software if I purchase a Sony ATRAC CD Walkman.

trust sony to bugger it up.

for around £60 - £130.

I shall have to think if that investment is worth it. :unsure:

A big thank you to Morpheus for pointing me in the right direction, well putting it on a plate for me really. :D

I have decided to order a Sony atrac walkman that will come with the simple burner software that I need. Although I don't need one, we have decided that it can be used as a xmas present for one of the family. I will then have the software and the capability to encode music files not only for the car c\d but also for who ever gets the present. Scrooge :P

The car has the ability to hold 5 c\d's so this should be able to hold all of my, the wifes and kids best record collections. :D
