Scanning Over A Network

Hi All

I just got this mail from a friend,

Can any body help?

I have a Canon MP730 Printer/Fax/Copier/Scanner connected via USB to one of

my office PCs. I can share the printer and the Fax with other PCs

because they both appear as printers. But, how can I share the scanner? You

can't share it like a printer but I'd like to be able to scan from the other

PCs too. Have mailed Canon but no reply yet. Have checked the web, but no

help. Any ideas?

Tony

Hi

What he wants to do, is to be able to use the scanner from any computer on the network.

We have found a Hardware solution but it is quite expensive, so we are still looking for a software based solution to this problem..

Cheers

Tony

PS Mod's / Admin please do not be so quick to mark a post as solved.

Thankyou

Just bein' nosey - - -why would he need to scan across the network ?? If it were possible ( and I ain't sayin it ain't ), he would need someone at the scanner physically putting things in the scanner to, well, scan - - -.

Couldn't he just scan from the PC the scanner is on, wop images to shared drive then 'go back to his own PC to do his 'manipulating' ??

just my 2 penneth and tell me to keep me nose out if you want :P

I won't, but you can tell me to - - :D

OI

Keep your nose out :D

I understand exactly where you are comming from,

i don't understand it my self, his office is only about 10 foot square, with 2 0r 3 computers in it.

I suppose it would make sence if the scanner was connected to a server, and as long as that is on, he could scan from any PC which was on at the time.

I don't know
