Misc. Windows 2000 Problems

I recently decided to do the good ol formatting of my harddrive.

That was a bad decision!

From what I can see I did absolutely nothing wrong.

Formatted C: from the repair console.

Rebooted, clicked my way through the Win2k installation, waited.

Installed my old mobo, graphicscard and modem drivers.

Plus the installationdisc I got from my ISP.

Everything seemed to be running smooth.

Started IE.

Boyaah! The problems started there already.

The ISP disc was outdated due to some changes my ISP had done.

So IE tried to redirect me to an info page.

But it sorta just stuck, trying to redirect forever.

Well I remember since earlier what changes that I had to make, so I made them.

Yay it worked!

Went to WindowsUpdate to...update.

Downloaded and installed IE6 without problems.

Reboot.

I start IE again, big bold text saying "JavaScript must be enabled!" popped up.

I restart IE and it works fine again.

Until I went to WindowsUpdate to...update.

I tried to download some minor updates.

Clicked on the install button, nothing happened.

Then up popped an error message.

"svchost.exe has generated an error and needs to be shut down"

Or something similar.

Reboot.

IE, WindowsUpdate, Windows 2000 SP4.

In the middle ot the installation process it failed because of reason unknown.

"Screw this" I say.

Installed WinRAR and Google Toolbar instead.

Only problem being that nothing heppened whn I tried to install the Toolbar.

Had to ALt+F4 because the Disagree button did nothing either.

Reboot.

Google Toolbar again.

Nothing this time either.

And that svchost.exe error again.

Into the Controlpanel I go.

Which is totally screwd up.

The scrollbar being on the far left with all the icones cramped up in two rows.

Add/Remove, nothing there!

I go check in the WINNT folder, and nothing is visible, no icons.

"Screw this!" I say.

Reboot.

Great, not the modem icon is red and the modem seems to have died for some reason.

"Screw this!" I say and reinstalls Windows again.

And everything is exactly like before.

Only now I noticed that I can't copy/cut/paste.

It seems like Javascript doesn't work at all for some reason.

And I can't use the computer for pretty much anything except basic internet stuff.

Just what the hell am I doing wrong?!

I did the exact same things that I did the previous 2-3 times I reinstalled Windows.

It's not like you got to have IQ 160 to do it.

And wow this post became long!

Might as well mention that I'm not exactly a pro.

If I was I wouldn't have postd this would I? :P

Had to insert that smiley manually, seems like the Clickable Smilies doesn't work either.

Hurray, I find more problems by the minute!

Helping you before you kill someone would make us Accessories before the Fact.

In your position I'd start again. Reformat and reinstall Windows. No point in continuing using an iffy installation.

If you can't face that again go here and run the tests. If you need help with an analysis you can use the Tech Express link to post back here.
