-pops- Posted November 17, 2003 Report Share Posted November 17, 2003 For technical reasons which I can't remember, it is best not to run a "switching" power supply under no load conditions. (All modern PSUs are of the switching type).In any case, what would a no-load test tell you? You would hear the fan going and that would be about all.Best to install and test with a load on it. Yes, I figured that it would act as an earth just by being connected and without being powered up, which I've done. It would have been useful to have heard the fans running though, just to eliminate, or condemn, the PSU if the machine sounds noisy when it's assembled Ta.
