-pops-
On the past few bootups of this machine it has hung during the initial disk detection in the BIOS. A reboot has normally cured it.This morning all seemed to go well until XP loaded and it told me it had found new hardware, a MaXToR (then a random selection of letters). I checked in My Computer and what used to be my "G" drive, a 40GB Maxtor had turned into a 208GB drive and it was empty.Without boring you too long, it transpired on checking inside the machine that the IDE plug into the drive was very, very slightly loose. Pushing it fully home seems to have cured the problem. I don't know how this happened or anything about it but the point of this posting is:If you get some unexplained odd happenings with your hardware, check that no connectors have come adrift, even ever so slightly, before you start to worry too much.
