moon
I've got this cardhttp://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=49817Aida 32 tells me it's a 32bit card. However, it's a 128 bit card herehttp://www.cputopia.com/cputopia-sapphire-...video-card.htmlHave I been scammed ? Why does Aida report it as 32bit ? How else can I check it ? What does it all mean ? :D
Guest nellie2
Aida could be seeing it wrong.. they only do a 64 or 128bit card !!!What does Belarc say?http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Chris
Where exactly is Aida saying that it is a 32 bit card?
moon
Hi, guru. :D I've got Belarc on this machine but it doesn't mention bits. Just reports Voodoo 3 graphics card and monitor. Does it report bits on yours ?
moon
Where exactly is Aida saying that it is a 32 bit card?Hi powerless,I can't bloody find it now but I suspect it was reporting the colour depth of the monitor. Where it said '32bit' it now reports the IBM. OK, I'll start again. How can I find out about the 'bits' on this card ? I can't see that Belarc will do it, nell. bvw
When you launch Aida I like the "report" function.Report/Quick report....all pages..plain text.Browse at your leisure then.
Chris
You'll find all monitors only support 32bit colour depth (modern ones). The 128bit refers to something else on the card me thinks the memory ;)
moon
Geez, I got 81 pages of stuff I don't understand. No mention of 'bits' in relation to the Radeon though, so I'm non the wiser. It mentioned 'Rendering depths, 24- 32 bit' , but I can't see how to classify the card, not with Aida or Belarc anyway.
moon
OK, I'm beginning to understand. The real world is filled with dramatic contrasts between lights, shadows and colors, from the brightest, harshest white to the deepest, darkest black. For any game world to convincingly depict a 3D environment, it needs to simulate this seemingly infinite range in a decidedly finite space. With each added "bit" of light or color information afforded a game, the quality and accuracy of the resulting image grow exponentially. 32-bit color only gives each of the red, green, blue and alpha channels 256 choices. 128-bit color provides the developer with literally millions of choices for each channel. For film-quality real-time animated visuals, there's simply no substitute. The GeForce FX delivers this demanding level of excellence in real time. http://www.nvidia.com/object/feature_precision.htmlHow do I know what my card is capable of though ? Guest Grim Reaper
benchmark tests.....download herethe higher your score the better the card. But to give you an idea, the 9200 is now within the budget range of cards. It will be Directx 8.0 compliant whilst the newer 9700 and 9800 cards are directx9 compliant.
Guest ellas
hope you have better luck with your ati card than me.
moon
Thanks Grim. I've tested its performance but there's still no way I know whether it's a 32bit, 64bit or 128bit without taking somebody's word for it. It's running on Directx 9 now with no probs, even though its a 9200.
Guest Grim Reaper
all pcs with xp will run directx 9, however to use it to its full potential you need one of the newer graphics GPU's. These utilise all of the api's that directx9 provides. You also would need software that is written for directx9.
moon
Gotcha. Mine's running DirctX 9 on Win2k, no worries.Right then, anybody know if my card is really '128 bit' or not ?
Guest Grim Reaper
the memory is 128bit - this basically means 128 simulteanous streams transmitting. The gpu i believe is 32 bit as 64 bit processors have only just been launched.
moon
Right, so I can buy another of these cards for a guy who's asking me if it's 32/64 or 128 bit and tell him that it's 128 ? That's the reason I want to know. :D
Guest Grim Reaper
the main part of the card is the Graphics proccessing unit which is 32 bit - this determines the capability of the card.the memory is 128 bit - this determines the amount of data transmitted at once and thus the memory speed. moon
So, without 64bit cpu architecture all current cards, 9200, 9600, 9800 etc are using 32bit processing ?
