Do the same as Boris, just go one step futher and use my interest free overdraft to pay for the credit card and save my money to earn more interest.  It's nice being paid simply for spending money :)

Poor student ! :D

In that case, you options seem a bit limited. I think you can get your 'money' paid into your bank account and not the post office. This may be enough to convince the bank to give you an account. I wouldn't normally give such advice as I think people should support their local post office (or they will loose them).

Unfortunatly banks don't tend to be too keen on people who don't earn money as they see them as a risk.

Think only a bank can now tell you what it is you can do to get a debit card from them.

i have no intentions of getting my money paid into a bank account i want it to stay the way it is,i can't see why they shouldn't give me one all i want is to open a bank account when i get paid put 20 to 30 pounds in it every pay day so that i can pay my new isp it isnt like im asking for credit the money has to be in the account for them to take it out i don't see the problem

Unfortunatly the bank will not see you as a customer that can 'make money for them' and so they don't see the benefit for them in giving you an account.

This is something those (for whatever reason) have long struggled against.

Only a bank will be able to take this any futher now. I fully understand your frustration but banks aren't here for the good of the people, they are there to make money for shareholders.

Students get them because the banks hope we run up large debts that we can't pay off and then they will make a fortune out of us. There is also evidence to suggest that once you are with a bank few people change so 'we' will go to them for everything else.

It was unclear from your conversation if Lloyds had refused to give you an account. They may be more than happy to do so, why not go back and see if you can just open an account.

Life isn't fair :(
