caf777
A short time ago I had to format my HD, and obviously reinstall w98 and office 2000. Since, I have been annoyed by a popup window whenI have to restart the computer for somehow, that shows up on the middle of the process, before it loads the DESktop. The windows says- office 2000 optimization assisstant-The process is supposed to be able to cancel by the user, but when you click on bottom, it doesn't respond, then you are forced to reset the computer....sometimes twice and three times.... it really sucks,Can you help me, and tell me how to solve this ?write me soon pls.caf  :P
nellie2
Caff can you tell us what you have running at start up? If you go to start, run then type msconfig then ok... you will get a window pop up. Click on start up and tell us what it lists there. moon
Yep, sounds like you've got Office in your startup list. Take its tick away and never give it back. :)Startup Monitor will give you the future option of saying 'NO' when programmes want to add themselves to your Startup list. moon
All you really really want in Startup is Explorer and System Tray. Everything else is surplus to requirements or a matter of taste. As well as those two I let my antivirus and my firewall run at startup and that's it.Yep, I see you've got 'Office' running there. Just uncheck its box , reboot and see if that popup problem goes away. After that you can uncheck a lot of those others and see if your boot is faster and if it makes a difference to your way of doing things. You can always put the tick back if it does. :)
nellie2
If you want to go through your list and decide what to keep ticked and what to untick then there is a good list here.http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htmI would definitley untick the microsoft office one third from the bottom, it is a major resource hog and is not needed in startup.
