The left hand needs to know what the right hand is doing to get a result. It's no good fiddling about on the wings and leaving empty space in the middle, you've got to string a few passes together and get things flowing. Set pieces are very entertaining but they need a lot of practise to pull 'em off properly. It can get very boring if there's no score. Bernard Manning was a great player. He took the use of the head to new levels. Some players are highly-strung but Manning didn't worry when he was out on the pitch, he just got on with it. You could tell by the way he rolled up his sleeves that someone was in for a good hammering. Ah, the good ol' days, no agents, no names on the dressing -room door, you just kept yourself fit with stout and lard sandwiches and read the Wanted columns like everybody else.
