tszhim Posted May 21, 2004 Report Share Posted May 21, 2004 I have formatted my hard disk and install again the win XP, however, when copying file to the PC, there is an error copying the file. But i am sure that the installation disc gets no problems as it can install in the other machine. one strange thing is that the file that the PC can not copy is different when i try installing the disc each time..... so i really want to know how to tackle this problem..thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

-pops- Posted May 21, 2004 Report Share Posted May 21, 2004 Not connected with your problem but remember that Windows XP is only permitted to be installled on one machine. You mention it installs on one machine but not another.To the problem though, as Nellie2 asks, have you done a full format of the drive? From experience, I know that a full format and not a so called "quick format" is necessary for a trouble free install. I realise that XP will format the disk before installing but it does that much better with a "clean" disk rather than one containing remnants of previous installations.BTW :welcome: to the forum. -pops- Posted May 21, 2004 Report Share Posted May 21, 2004 Try disconnecting all unnecessary hardware from the machine before installing XP.Have one hard drive, one stick of memory, perhaps the floppy drive and the CD ROM from which you're reading the XP disk.It could be that the installation disk is looking for files for a component in the computer that doesn't have intrinsic Windows drivers. fragged one Posted May 27, 2004 Report Share Posted May 27, 2004 sounds to me like a scratch on the disk, or something making it difficult to read the cd.make sure you clean the cd. i use windex and a terry cloth.also, you'll want to clean the cd-rom. Sir Radfordin Posted May 27, 2004 Report Share Posted May 27, 2004 Would agree that a fault on the disc (or in the drive being used to read it) is causing the problem. If a different 'file' is found to be missing each time then it sounds more like a disc problem than the installation process.
