Hopefully, once the impoverished anti-GM campaigners get it together, UK supermarkets will agree not to stock it. I also hope that imports and buyers can be monitored and the results made public. This is known to a lot of the populus and it results in a cynical don't care attitude and low turnouts at election time resulting in the mass of self serving fools that constitute the UK government. More then speculation, I mean evidence.I have no strong views of introducing triffids or anything like that into the world, it is the cynical philosophies of companies like Monsanto, Syngenta, Zeneca in introducing these monstrosities. The main aspect I am unable to come to terms with is: why?Why do we need these GM crops? Sweetcorn and all the other crops that are being messed about with are, as far as I know, is quite acceptable without artificial meddling with its genetic makeup and introducing genes from unrelated species.One aspect of this meddling is that it is very often carried out to introduce a trait in the plant to resist certain pesticides which, by coincidence???????????????????????????? are manufactured by the same company. The most cynical thing is to introduce self sterility into the plant so that seed for each new crop has to be purchased from the same source as the one doing the meddling. Any dubious advantage in crop yields in countries that may have had benefits are then lost in them having to fork out cash to buy the seed for the next crop rather than using the traditional ways of saving seed.What it means, ultimately, is that one or two companies control the world's food supply and can thus hold the world to ransom.
