-pops-
We all know (I think) that the NT Authority shutdown is associated with the Blaster worm and its variants but my son phoned be a little while ago saying that one of his machines was shutting down constantly after getting the NTA notice come up. This was happening some time after WXP had been running. Now, as I build his machines, I'm always careful that they are set up with all possible protection and he had all the patches and fully up to date A/V etc.I got him to run Stinger, Spybot S&D, Adaware, A squared - all of which came out clean and then Trend Housecall which again said everything was clean. One thing he did remark on was that the machine in question seemed to be running hot but not excessively so (CPU probe gave a reading of 60 deg) and it was running slowly.Everything appears to be back to normal now but I'm curious to know if the NT Authority shutdown have a real function in Windows XP e.g. is it an overheating protection or anything like that?
