Problems with Downloading Software Updates

Recommended Posts

I am using WindowsXP Pro, I have found recently that when updates become available for various software I am using, notably Zonealarm, Internet Explorer times out after a while and then gives me an error message:

Internet Explorer cannot access the site....

Others will download with no problems, very weird, could it be something to do with .exe files? As this is what the zonealarm upgrade is...

go to start>run now type sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and /)

Have your XP disc to hand

Thanks! but no joy :(

I tried that, interesting things happened, I kept getting (about 20 times) insert cd/retry....finally it worked itself to the end and then shutdown without telling me if it had repaired anything

Will look at ellas's link now, see if that help's me

Still having problems with this, it is not a zonelabs problem, definately something in XP that is timing out, it is stopping me from getting some major upgrades & other software downloads..

Is their some way I can run an XP Repair process without fear of it deleting or corrupting any of my files/software?

Really like to get this sorted without having to reload XP...

Thanks Powerless, I have seen that process when re-installing on other users machines, but my experience precludes what process it takes, hence my concern over losing vital information, I will run a back-up & attempt a repair asap..I just hope it can resolve the problem I am having, it is getting to be very annoying...
