Badger
I do not know if I should be writing to you Pops but I wanted you to know that I have now transferred everything into the new Tower. I was quite worried about starting but all went well. The only problem I had was trying to line up the Mo Bo with the standoffs. A bit of a struggle that. It is amazingly quiet.I have not tested all the hardware but have not as yet, had any messages and all looks fine in device manager.I have one problem though, and perhaps I should start a new thread for it. Just recently, windows seems to be taking a long time to shut down. I get the message "Windows is shutting down" and it takes about 30 seconds now, whereas before it was quick. All I have done is installed some moe Ram (a 512 stick) It is all balanced etc. It seems a very strange question but, could this be causeing the problem?I have done a defrag, using the prog.you recommended "Perfect Disk".I have done a scan disk and have emptied my temp.folders. Have you any suggestions Please? I have looked on the other forum for an anwser, but it seems to entail changing the registry. J
christmascracker
Just a thought but have you installed any new software recently?I installed the anti-virus Nod32 on a trial a while ago and the shut down time went from more or less instant to around 30/40 seconds. Uninstalled the prog and all back to normal.
Badger
Thanks for your reply. I have installed Drive Image 7 in place of drive image 2002and Adobe Photoshop CS in place of 7. Nothing else that I know of except a windows critical update, but I seem to think that was before this started. It wasKB 8396-43 and I cannot find it in Add/Remove to take it out. The Ram,I thought would make it faster not slower. Thanks again J
-pops-
Hello Badger.Glad you like the case - certainly the best cases I've used.Regarding your current problem, I can't help. I don't take much notice of how long shutdowns take and my machines could be a few seconds to a minute, I really don't know. So, unless someone see this and can give an answer quick-ish, you might be better off starting a new thread. One thing I certainly wouldn't do is a regedit for something (I think) is so trivial.

djohn
Badger.Start/run and "TYPE" REGEDIT From here on be very careful not to make any changes unless you feel sure of what you are doing. Look in the left-hand pane of the two panes on show. Click on all the "-" sign's to collapse your folder tree back as far as it will go. Now all that should be showing is "My Computer" Icon with a + sign to the left of it. Click on the + sign. Scroll down to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Click on the + sign to expand that folder. Scroll down to the SYSTEM folder and click on the + sign to expand. Scroll down to the "Current control set" and click on the + sign to expand. Scroll down to the "Control" folder and click on the folder itself. Now look to the right-hand pane of the window and you will see. "Wait to kill service" Icon. Right click on that Icon, from the drop-down menu choose. Modify. Left click on "Modify" and dialogue box will open with the figure 2000 inside it. Reduce this to 200 by left clicking to the right of the last zero then backspace to delete one of the zero's or highlight the whole number and change to 200. Click on OK and back your way out of the registry saving as you go. It's easier than it sounds, but take your time and go through it slowly and you will be OK. If at any time you feel unsure just back out without making any changes. Remember to collapse your folder tree as I mentioned above then you can start right at the beginning and follow through. Good luck j.
Badger
Thank you very much for your help and comprehensive instructions. I have not tried it yet,as I want to make an image,in case I go wrong. I am not sure if windows system restore will be enough. Thanks. j
