Nukke Posted June 21, 2004 Report Share Posted June 21, 2004 Hello ppl, I have a FX5200 128MB (PNY) wich I just installed on my dad's PC (a P4 3.06GHz; 1024MB PC3100; Windows XP Pro (SP1)) However, when I install the drivers supplied by Nvidia (fisrt I tried the latest 56.72 drivers) and restart, I get the blue screen of death saying that the nv_disp4 (ou sumthin like that) is causing a loopback error and that windows cannot start...fine, so I try an older version (53.03)...no luck..then I go back even more (52.16) ALSO no luck. Between driver installs, I remove previous versions completely with the windows uninstaller then with Driver Cleaner 3 AND Nasty File Remover (just to be sure ) The thing is that this exact same card has already worked on this exact same comp (last january with the 53.03 drivers) and now it refuses to work **edit: With the 53.03 drivers I dont get the blue screen, I get as far as the "loading windows" screen, then, when it was supposed to show the logon screen with the user accounts the monitor kinda turns off (orange light) and the computer restarts :/ ANY help will be very much appreciated Thanks (srry for any grammar mistakes) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Nukke Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Share Posted June 21, 2004 Yes, of course, as I said the card worked perfectly on this same PC in janurary...same config and all. I though it might be a windows problem....so I just finished doing the windows repair thing (boooring) but no luck...it's still exactly the same :blink:edit: yup, cleard both cab's (regular and SP1) in safe mode....then installed driver but same thing.Now, I rebooted windows a while back and windows identified the card and installed its own drivers for it (no good) however, when I went in "properties >> Video settings" to change the screen resolution (1024x728) the screen went black and the PC restarted (as soon as I changed teh resolution)...exactly as it does when I install a nvidia driver :unsure: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Nukke Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Share Posted June 21, 2004 It's a Dell proprietary motherboard, based on the Intel 845PE Chipset and manufactured by various outside contractors. (it's a dell dimension 4550 :blush: )And I havent updated any BIOS, nitehr the mobo's or the gfx card. Nukke Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Share Posted June 21, 2004 A 16MB ATIRage Pro Card....in Feburary the ATI card went back into the PC and I replaced it for the FX5200 again today (this morning).....Before I didnt even have to remove the ATI drivers, but now I have already removed all traces of the ATI drivers and any previous Nvidia driver install :( Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Nukke Posted June 21, 2004 Author Report Share Posted June 21, 2004 Thanks for the replies, the ATI card is AGP, this mobo dosent have onboard gfx (thank god). And about the card beeing in working order...im starting to suspect that it may be damaged, for it was working perfectly at 4am today when I removed it from my PC to bring it here (4 hour bus ride) so it may have suffered something on the trip....but I dont really have how to test it here (on another PC). Also, i got some drivers from http://www.omegacorner.com/ wich ill be trying out in a bit....might work :)p.s: When the computer boots up (i must have done that about 10000000 times today) the first thing that shows up is the gfx card POST screen with it's bios version, ammount of memory, name etc....isn't this an indicator that the card is funcional? Nukke Posted June 22, 2004 Author Report Share Posted June 22, 2004 So I installed SP1 and all the Security updates, but still same problem...so I do the windows repair again, and get a "MSDART.DLL" error in the middle of the install...could this be something? Also, sometimes when I shut down I see a "closing should not see me" box, really fast. Some ppl say it is a windows installer thing...any ideas? Rebel=UK= Posted June 22, 2004 Report Share Posted June 22, 2004 Make sure you have got rid of the ATI driver completly, if you have the old ATI card try putting that back in if it works straight off then youll know you havnt got rid of the ATI drivers .
