Scarecrow Man Posted August 3, 2004 Report Share Posted August 3, 2004 A user called a few weeks back, had the dreded 'system32/config missing' error while loading windows. So I slap in the CD, do fixboot, and it works like a charm.Just recently (about 2 weeks after initial incident) I was called back for the same problem. So once again, I slap in the CD, type r to go to recovery console, but when I press 1 to log onto 1st (and only) partition, I get BSOD (before I can type admin password) I also get BSOD in safe mode, debug mode, last known good, and even when I try to do a fresh install.So as you can see, I don't have many options. The BSOD gives me the following:REGISTRY_ERRORSTOP: 0x000000051 (0x0000000003, 0x0000000003, 0x0000000000, 0xE10B60000)*I'm buggered.. I can't install windows, I can't repair it, and I can't start it normally. I'd really like to fix this without formatting, but if I have to, I have to. Also, the user is not the type of person that messes around with settings (as far as I know) the one thing they did mention was that they installed 2 new games, one being NHL 2004, which apparently froze a few times during play.Any suggestions? or am I SOL? *Not exact, but close enough.. :P Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Scarecrow Man Posted August 4, 2004 Author Report Share Posted August 4, 2004 The computer came as a package, and the case has not been opened since it was in the manufacturing process, so unless they gave the user bad memory, I don't see why this would happen... but I will check. I haven't been there in a few days, but I am going back tonight. I am going to check the hardware, and bios settings and try one more time to do a recovery. If it doesn't work, I think the computer is still under warrenty.. worth sending it back?I am also going to check for a recovery disk. An I/O error may have occurred while the Registry was trying to read one of its files (caused by hardware or file system problems).
