moon
I'm just in the process of moving my website to netfirms.com and, as well as being half the price for 50 x the content, there are tools that I can use, although I don't understand what they are for. Anyone with time on their hands to explain ? 1) .htaccessEnable or disable parsing of .htaccess files in your Website directories.
madboy33
have a nice long readhttp://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess.shtml
moon
Ta , madboy.2) Domain Forwarding (Pointers) Does that mean that whichever URL I enter ( allowed 25) the user will be directed to my site ? Wouldn't that negate the existence of the site whose URL I entered ? Or does it mean that I can invent URL's so that when peeps are surfing blind they end up at my site ? Seems very remote. madboy33
Forwarding is exactly what it saisI have a website which is www.tonydos.co.uk which i must do :blushing: :blushing: :blushing: some work onBut the real address is www.tonydos1.pwp.blueyonder.co.ukPeople dont surf blindYou would have to put your name into search enginesYou can then make as many sites as you like then for people I make a site for a friend, but host it with my webspaceIf you go to www.google.co.uk and type in my webname which is tonydos it will be nearly at the top of the list (depending n hits), i also do a lot for my football club as well, so at the moment the aplication form is at the top
moon
I must be thick. It seems as though you're saying that I can host 25 websites under my primary URL. What's the point of that ? Am I missing something ?
madboy33
Yes you can host 25 As i said i host 2, mine and a friends
grim_reefer
What's the point of that ? Am I missing something ?maybe it means having subdomains - but they can each have their "own" domain name (which redirects to the actual page).. in case you want 25 different websites addresses or 25 companies ;) think that one is for me..see my companys website is on the same webspace as another company but we only have one domain name - so its "othercompaniesname.co.uk/thiscompaniesname" - id prefer "thiscompaniesname.co.uk" - and i want to form lots of companies, not just oneor you may want to sell your webspace and split it up - but people would prefer their own domain name
moon
I'm well confused. It says ' boost visits to your site by using Domain Forwarding (Pointers) ' How can hosting other peeps stuff, under their own domains, boost visits to my site ? grim_reefer
maybe YOU was right the first time that its simply 25 different urls/domains - but they all lead to your site, i know there are other sites like that...i guess they think it increases the chances of someone randomly finding one of the addresses or will make your site appear 25 times in a search engines directory  hmm no, that would look wierd - coz if your website was the top hit (or wherever it is) it will have another 24 idenitical sites afterwards but with different urls - that cant be right
expertec
If I saw something like that in a search engine, I'd keep away from it.

moon
Yeah, I think I'll give it a miss meself.Anyway, I chose the simplest option and got it uploaded last night. Frontpage 2000 is effin useless. Conked out three times but luckily it managed to pick up where it left off when I hit 'upload changed pages only' I really must get down to learning how to use Dreamweaver. I'd appreciate it if peeps took a squint using different browsers. I've an awful feeling that it only works properly in IE. My 'links' symbols are also out of line 'cause I'm having trouble using gifs that I didn't make. I'll get around to that but meantime, does it work on a range of different systems and browsers ? Netfirms seems like a really solid crew so any faults are very likely down to me. http://www.artscoritani.com
