may_hem1
Oh dear... a program crashed my laptop... I forced the power off... Windows XP wouldn't boot complaining that a system file was corrupt. My laptop only came with a Restore CD, meaning I can't recover the operating system without wiping the hard disk.My laptop didn't come with a CD drive so now I've used a network boot disk to get to a command prompt, and used the freeware NTFS Reader to recover my data onto a different PC.Even though NTFS Reader says it supports Long File Names it only shows them on the screen. It doesn't actually recover files with Long File Names. I end up with a load of truncated DOS file names. :( So now that I have thousands of files with 8 character DOS filenames, is there a way to recover the Long File Names or are these lost forever? Thanks,May
