FireFox & Thunderbird Internet connection

Hi,

Last weekend I tried to install SP2 on my PC running Windows XP. I had that much trouble on the internet with pages not opening &c I decided to uninstall it after a couple of days.

However, since then I have been having trouble connecting with Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird (my preferred browser & email client).

When I click on either the desktop icons for these programs, the quick launch icons or even the exe files in "My Computer", the home page or the inbox opens but does not connect to the internet and an alert window opens with the message

"Network Connections

Cannot load dialog

Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection."

This problem doesn't occur with Internet Explorer or Outlook Express, both of which work perfectly, and if a connection already exists eg by manually connecting by clicking on the icon in "network connections" then Firefox & Tbird both work normally.

I have Norton AV and Zone Alarm installed but these were there when the programs were functioning properly.

Has anybody any idea of the cause of this and a possible sollution?

There is another article about connection problems... a bit late now that you have uninstalled SP2... but perhaps for future reference?

Thanks for your replies Trackrat & Nellie2.

The solutions refered to in MSKB all seamed to apply the virtual private networking (I assume this is different to internet connecting) and I couldn’t find the suggested check box in my network connection properties box.

So I ran a search in the Mozillazine forum and there were a lot of queries about this. Unfortunately there were no answers.

Anyway, it’s only a small niggle and easy to live with. Thanks again for trying to help.
